About the Charities

Cork ARC Cancer Support House

Cork ARC is a safe haven for people with cancer and their families, where you

will find information, practical help and emotional support free of charge.  Whatever stage of your diagnosis or treatment, we believe that no one should have to do it

alone.

Our centres are homely, welcoming places where you can drop in without an

appointment and talk in confidence with one of our trained volunteers. We also provide a free telephone support service and many complimentary therapies designed to relieve the stress of a cancer diagnosis, such as counselling, massage, reflexology, art therapy, yoga, pilates and t’ai chi.

We also hold information workshops which offer patients and

relatives the opportunity to learn more about topics such as diet, bereavement,

lymphoedema, managing hormonal treatments, and prostate cancer.   In addition to these services, we provide counselling, support groups and a weekly drop in

‘Hour of Calm’ meditation session.  We have a dedicated Breast Cancer Service where our Breast Cancer Nurse Counsellor meets visitors on a one to one basis and also runs a regular breast cancer support group.

In response to the needs of our communities, we have extended our services into the community at NICHE Community Health Project on Cork City’s Northside and Bantry in West Cork. In May 2017 we opened our service at 29 Friar Street in Youghal.

We provide a wide range of vital cancer supports, all free of charge, for people whose lives have been affected by cancer and we rely almost entirely on the generosity of our supporters to allow us to continue offering these services free of charge to cancer patients and their loved ones when they need it most.

ALL OF OUR SERVICES ARE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE

BREAKTHROUGH CANCER RESEARCH

10% of the net proceeds from Jagged Edge Tour will be donated to Breakthrough Cancer Research.

ABOUT BREAKTHROUGH CANCER RESEARCH

Breakthrough Cancer Research funds the efficient and effective development of new treatments for cancer.  We work to significantly impact the number of people who can survive this disease.  Research programmes funded by Breakthrough Cancer Research must focus on translating lab discoveries into new treatment opportunities.  To this end we work closely with clinicians in practice all over Ireland so that our research is targeted at finding new options for poor prognosis and incurable cancers.

BCR exists to inspire and enable financial support from the community for exceptional research leading to more effective treatments for patients in Ireland and beyond.

Monies raised through Breakthrough Cancer Research are used to support focused research programmes, directly fund scientists and purchase laboratory consumables.  It will enhance facilities with state-of-the-art equipment and ensure that all cancer patients throughout Ireland have the opportunity to access the most up to date and effective treatment for their disease.

The Doctors and Surgeons who work with us across Ireland do so at no cost to our charity and give of their time to our research voluntarily following in the ethos set out by our late founder Professor Gerald O'Sullivan.

Working closely with healthcare professionals, expert scientists, our donors and volunteers, Breakthrough Cancer Research facilitates the investment of the community in the future of cancer care. There is hope and that hope is in research.
